RVA Adaptive Athletics Day

Bringing Adaptive Sports Opportunities to the Community for Third Annual Event

By Friendship Circle of Virginia July 21, 2026

*This is a sponsored article.

Friendship Circle of Virginia, Jacob’s Chance, and Sportable will host the third annual RVA Adaptive Athletics Day (RAAD), formerly known as All Abilities Sports Day, on Sunday, August 30, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Henrico Sports and Events Center. The free event will provide individuals with disabilities ages 5 to 40 the opportunity to explore adaptive sports, try new activities, and participate in an encouraging and accessible environment.

RAAD is designed to create opportunities for individuals with disabilities to experience the joy of athletics while building confidence and connecting with peers. Participants will be paired one-to-one with teen and adult volunteers who will provide encouragement, guidance, and support throughout the event. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of adaptive sports and activities, including basketball, soccer, seated volleyball, Taekwondo, crafts, and a sensory-friendly area for individuals who may
need a quieter space. Refreshments will be provided by Wegmans.

For many families, access to inclusive recreational opportunities can be limited. Events like RAAD provide individuals with disabilities the chance to participate alongside their peers, develop new skills, increase confidence, and engage in activities that promote independence and community involvement. RVA Adaptive Athletics Day is a collaborative effort between Friendship Circle of Virginia, Jacob's Chance, and Sportable, three organizations dedicated to expanding inclusive recreation and athletic opportunities for individuals with disabilities throughout the Richmond region. The event is proudly sponsored by Richmond Region Tourism, with refreshments generously provided by Wegmans.

Registration is free. To learn more or register, visit FCVA.org.
